There have been three prongs to the individual post-season over a three-week span from mid to late February to the first weekend in March — the one-day 32 district tournaments, the three-day eight region tournaments and the three-day individual championships at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City. For everyone that is still playing this was a great year. Our main concern is obviously the safety of everyone involved. All four girls games - Groups 1 and 3 - were played as scheduled. I thought that this was a possibility based on all of the information that I was hearing. All five games played Thursday were contested without spectators. Reporters, broadcasters and photographers with year-long NJSIAA credentials were permitted, along with players, coaches and essential school personnel. The public-school girls finals were set for Toms River on Saturday. As late as Thursday evening, first-year coach Rick Brunson questioned why games were still being played. Augustine coach Paul Rodio, the second winningest coach in state history, also felt the rest of the tournament should have been stopped prior to Thursday. My gut tells me we probably shouldn't play.
